Who decides if I can get help with school fees?

The final decision on who, and how many children, will receive help with school fees is made by trustees at their school committee award meetings. Decisions are based on:

  1. The child’s results in their entrance exam
  2. The family’s financial situation
  3. The number of applications the school has received for that academic year.

A bursary is not guaranteed. This is because schools will receive more applications for bursaries, and have more children score highly in the entrance exams, than they can support with the amount of funding available each year. We appreciate this may lead to disappointment for some families however it is unfortunately impossible to predict how many applications a school will receive each year or how well that cohort of children will do in the entrance exams. We therefore strongly recommend that in addition to applying for an assisted place at a Harpur Trust school you also continue with your applications for other schools (e.g. local maintained catchment school or other independent schools).
