Jennifer Sauboorah

Jennifer, a former student at St Thomas More RC Upper School, received an award from our Grants to Individuals programme ten years ago. The £3,000 grant enabled her to successfully complete an MSc Econ in Strategic Studies at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and Jennifer has since gone on to gain a PhD, also in Strategic Studies, from the University of Reading. Jennifer still lives in Bedford and currently works as a Research & Projects Officer for the General Council of the Bar, where she works on issues such as equality and diversity. She is also an associate with a consultancy firm.

Politics has always been her passion and her long term goals are to work as an adviser within the UK government and to find a post in the UN researching & developing humanitarian policy.

Like all recipients of in individual grants, Jennifer was able to demonstrate that she would use the skills she gained whilst studying for the benefit of the people of Bedford. She has volunteered for Bedford Library Link and the Prince’s Trust in Bedford. Jennifer describes herself as a very grateful recipient of our funding and in recognition of the support she received has kindly agreed to offer advice to any current Bedford Charity University Bursary Programme award holders planning careers in the law.
