Local Heroes Awards

In recent years, the Trust has sponsored a number of local awards programmes and other Bedford events, from the Dragon Boat racing at the River Festival to the Bedfordshire Sports awards.

We are delighted to be headline sponsors of a brand new awards programme which celebrates the extra-ordinary achievements of ordinary people within our community.

Local Heroes was launched by the Bedfordshire on Sunday last month and with 10 categories, it seeks to recognise the individuals and community groups which make a real difference to the lives of people in Bedfordshire.

Categories include Fundraiser of the year, Act of Outstanding Bravery, Sports Unsung Hero and Enterprising Community.

The nominations are now open and you can find details of all categories and how to nominate by visiting www.bedfordshire-news.co.uk/localheroes.  The public will also have the option to vote for one of the finalists to be named BoS People’s Choice Winner for 2017.

Chief Executive of The Harpur Trust, David Russell, said “These awards are very much in tune with the work we do as a charity in Bedford.  Through our grantmaking, we aim to help people improve their lives and realise their potential by creating opportunity and by breaking down barriers.  Local Heroes celebrates the very real achievements of ordinary people who are going out of their way to help, support, motivate and inspire others and we are delighted to be sponsoring these awards”.

The summer gala awards event will take place on 6 July 2017 in the marquee at Bedford Blues Rugby Club.
