Bringing Bedford’s History to Life

As part of its 450th Anniversary celebrations, the Trust is funding a special edition of a new book for children which aims to bring local history to life.

Jointly created by Alasdair Bright and Karen Fryc, The Bedford Chronicles will be telling the history of Bedford as it has never been told before.

The Trust will give a free copy to every Bedford Borough child in Years 4 and 5 and will also be donating class sets to schools.

Alasdair said, ‘I am so excited by this project, it has taken us a long time to research as Bedford has so many stories. On our journey to discover our town we found out just how fascinating a place Bedford actually is’.Karen added, ‘Bedford has an amazing story and we are going to tell it. We want to bring history to life for everyone’  Karen added, ‘We are delighted that our book, which will also be available to purchase, is to be given free to 6,500 children, that’s just fantastic!’

Along with the book itself, Bedford Theatre in Education are launching a brand new Theatre Production based on The Bedford Chronicles called, ‘The Vikings of Bedford’ which they hope to take into schools in the Spring of next year.

If that wasn’t enough in July 2016, for two weeks only, there will be The Bedford Chronicles interactive Town Tours in partnership with local businesses.

You can follow The Bedford Chronicles on Twitter @bedschronicles and on Facebook at

A website will be launched later in the year.
