Launch of the Wixams show flat

07 Jun 2018

As a Trust we have been providing accommodation for older people for over 200 years through our almshouses. Today we celebrated the launch of the show suites at the new ExtraCare Charitable Trust development at Wixams, a complex which we have invested £2 million into, in the next phase of our provision.

Chief Executive of the Harpur Trust, David Russell, (pictured right), joined prospective residents John and and Shirly Davey and CEO of Extracare Nick Laverty (left) to officially open the two apartments which will soon be open to the public.

Wixams Retirement Village will provide a whole range of communal social and leisure facilities in the village centre which will be open to residents, their families and members of the wider local community. These will include a village hall, library and IT suite, bar and bistro, fitness gym, hairdressing and beauty salon and shop.

230 one and two bedroom apartments are available for sale, shared ownership and rental at the 6 acre site just three miles away from Bedford town centre. Up to 50 activities could be on offer each week including art classes, Tai-chi, yoga, computer classes and gardening. Some of the sessions could be run by residents themselves on a voluntary basis.

Care and support will be available within the village to all residents should they need it, delivered by ExtraCare’s dedicated staff team. A well-being and specialist dementia service will also be located within the village centre.

We have nomination rights to 25 of the rental apartments and if you know an older resident with strong Bedford connections, who cannot afford to buy, please do contact our Community Programmes team on 01234 369500 or email info@harpurtrust.org.uk
