Almshouse Summer Party
On Thursday 18 June Bedford Girls’ School hosted our annual Almshouse Summer Party. Pupils from all The Harpur Trust schools and older people from across the Borough, including our own Almshouse residents, came together for an afternoon of song and dance.
This year 84 guests enjoyed a sunny afternoon tea whilst Harpur Trust pupils aged 4 to 18 presented an engaging medley of song, dance, drama and instrumental performances. Children from Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory School Choir started the afternoon off with an uplifting number of songs including ‘I’m still singing’. Performances by the older pupils then followed with Bedford Modern School wowing the audience with their vocal and dance talents. Bedford School provided no less than six musical performances on piano, violin and trombone. Bedford Girls’ School offered up the final performances of the day with songs, music and drama, in particular the girls’ performance of ‘Puss in Footie Boots’ was well received. The afternoon was then brought to a close with the ever-popular audience sing-a-long.
This year’s performances were of a particularly high standard and the Trust would like to thank all the pupils involved in the event, including those who served the afternoon tea and spent time chatting to our guests plus those who took part in the performances. Thanks also to our staff who worked hard behind the scene preparing the performances with the pupils and those who helped out on the day.
The annual party is always an enjoyable occasion for our guests and each year one of the Trust’s schools takes it in turn to host the event that sees the younger generation offer vital companionship to older residents for an afternoon.
